Let's start in Numbers 13, where Moses sends twelve spies to scout out the Promised Land. Now, we all know this story, but stick with me because there's something here that'll revolutionize how you think about your business.
"We even saw giants there, the descendants of Anak. Next to them we felt like grasshoppers, and that's what they thought too." (Numbers 13:33, NLT)
Did you catch that? Not only did these spies diminish themselves, but they also presumed to know what their "giants" thought about them. They wrote the script for both sides of the conversation!
Here's what gets me: these weren't random people wandering in the desert. Back in Exodus 13:18, NLT, God called them "a mighty army ready for battle." They just weren't ready to see themselves that way yet, which is exactly why God sent them on the wilderness journey, so they could discover who they really were.
But even after witnessing God's power, after seeing Him show up and show out for them in miraculous ways, they still reverted to grasshopper thinking when faced with their promised territory.
Sound familiar?
How many times have you looked at your calling, your business vision, and your God-given dreams and immediately started focusing on the "giants"—the competition, the market saturation, and the voices telling you you're not qualified enough, experienced enough, or polished enough?

Can we talk about something that's been burning in my spirit lately? I've been deep in my Bible bag (as I like to say), and the Lord has been showing me connections between ancient biblical truths and modern business building that are absolutely blowing my mind.
Here's what I'm discovering:
The way we show up in the marketplace, the brands we build, and the territory we're willing to claim—it's all connected to our identity and what we believe about ourselves.
And powerhouse, if you're not careful, you'll find yourself feeling like a grasshopper in the land that God has already promised you.
Here's the truth that'll shake you: What you produce in your business, the things you put your hands to, are literally byproducts of the assumptions you hold about yourself.
When you don't know who you are, you create from a place of insecurity. When you're unclear about your identity in Christ, your brand becomes wobbly, your messaging becomes muddy, and your confidence becomes conditional.
As believers, our work isn't just a reflection of what we think about ourselves; it's also indicative of what we believe God thinks about us. And Foundher, if you believe God sees you as a grasshopper, you'll build grasshopper businesses in a land meant for giants
Guarding Your Mind: The Colossians Warning for Modern Entrepreneurs
Now let's jump to Colossians 2, because Paul has some words for us about protecting our mindset:
"I am telling you this so no one will deceive you with well-crafted arguments." (Colossians 2:4, NLT)
"Don't let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ." (Colossians 2:8, NLT)
Paul is essentially saying, “Be careful what you let into your mind, because people with convincing arguments will try to talk you out of what Christ has already established about you.”
The Open-Minded Trap
Now, this is where it gets interesting. When I dug into the Greek, I discovered that the word "beguile" in verse 8 means "to reckon wrong, to miscount, to cheat by false reckoning." It's connected to the Hebrew word "patar" which means to be spacious, open-minded, gullible, simple, or easily enticed.
I actually had to pause and ask the Holy Spirit: "Are you saying that being open-minded can be a bad thing?" And to some extent, yes.
Open-mindedness takes us off guard and makes us susceptible to allowing just anything into our minds and hearts.
Here's the business application: In your entrepreneurial journey, you're constantly bombarded with "well-crafted arguments" about what you should do, how you should show up, what your niche should be, and what success looks like. Everyone's got a framework, a formula, a "proven system."
But if we're too open-minded about who we are and what God has called us to, we become vulnerable to every new trend, every guru's advice, and every comparison trap the enemy sets.
Double-Mindedness: The Enemy's Entry Point
Double-mindedness becomes an entry point for contrary opinions. When you're unclear about your identity, calling, and unique genius, you become like that person James describes who's "like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind" (James 1:6).
In business, this shows up as:
Constantly pivoting based on what others are doing
Imposter syndrome that never quite goes away
Pricing your services based on insecurity rather than value
Chasing every shiny object instead of staying in your lane
Building someone else's business model instead of your own
This brings us to one of my favorite biblical business concepts: your Metron. In 2 Corinthians 10:13, Paul talks about his "measure" or "set portion of territory" that was his for the taking. The Greek word "metron" literally means a measured portion—your lane, your sphere of influence, your designated territory.
Paul knew three crucial things:
What his territory was
How to operate in it powerfully
When not to go beyond it
This is revolutionary for us as Christian entrepreneurs because it means:
You have a specific sphere of influence that belongs to you
There are people who need what you specifically offer
Your "competition" isn't actually competition—they have their metron, you have yours
Staying in your lane isn't limiting; it's powerful
Finding Your Unique Genius
Your niche isn't something you choose; it's something you uncover. It lies within your identity, your story, and your unique combination of gifts, experiences, and calling.
This is why the identity work is so crucial. If you're unclear about who you are, how can you expect others to buy into your power? If you don't understand your unique genius, how can you position yourself in the marketplace from a place of authority rather than insecurity?
Your Metron: Understanding Your Spiritual Territory

The Practical Application: From Grasshopper to Giant
So how do you move from grasshopper thinking to giant faith in your business? Here's what I'm learning:
1. Do the Identity Work First
Before you worry about your marketing strategy, your social media presence, or your sales funnels, get clear on who God says you are. What's your story? What's your unique combination of gifts? What problems do you naturally solve?
2. Guard Your Mental Gates
Be intentional about what voices you allow to speak into your business vision. Yes, get coaching and mentorship, but filter everything through the lens of your God-given identity and calling.
3. Know Your Metron
Get clear on your sphere of influence. Who are you called to serve? What problems are you uniquely equipped to solve? What territory has God given you to possess?
4. Position from Power, Not Insecurity
When you know who you are and what God has called you to, you can position yourself in the marketplace as someone with something valuable to offer, not as someone begging for attention or apologizing for taking up space.
5. Remember: You're Taking Spiritual Territory
Building an online business isn't just about making money (though let's be clear—there's nothing wrong with making money, okurrt!). You're literally taking spiritual territory, expanding the Kingdom through your unique gifts and calling.
The Mindset-Method-Message Framework
This is why my framework for the women I work with is Mindset-Method-Message:
Mindset: The beliefs you hold about yourself, God, and what's possible for you
Method: The practical systems and strategies that align with your identity and calling
Message: The authentic communication that flows from a clear understanding of who you are and who you serve
Notice that mindset comes first. Because everything else—your methods, your messaging, your marketing—flows from what you believe about yourself.
Walking Forward in Faith
Sister, God has called you higher. He's given you gifts, experiences, and a unique perspective that the world needs. But if you don't believe in the power you hold within yourself, how can you expect others to believe in it?
Your brand, your business, and your online presence are all extensions of your identity in Christ. When you get clear on who He says you are, when you position yourself from that place of knowing rather than striving, when you stay in your lane and serve from your unique genius, that's when your business becomes not just successful but significant.
The land is good. It really is flowing with milk and honey. The giants are there, yes, but remember—you were called to be a mighty army, not a grasshopper.
It's time to stop letting the enemy talk you off your square and start walking in the fullness of what God has for you.
